Headline “Do-It-Yourself” Vinyl Tile and Planks Installation Guide
Things you will need:
- • Headline Vinyl Floor Tiles and Planks
- • Headline or any Water-based Adhesive
- • Adhesive Applicator or Spreader
- • Meter Tape or Tape Measure
- • Pencil or Chalk (as marker)
- • Carpenter’s Square
- • Sharp Utility Knife
Subfloor Preparation:
- • Install over smooth, leveled and dry concrete and plywood floors;
- • Subfloor must be clean and free from dust, grease, grime, or wax;
- • Patch or fill cracks if necessary.
- • If old floor has poor texture, use leveling compound to smoothen the surface.
- • If subfloor,
• has existing vinyl,
- • Remove existing vinyl tiles;
- • Clean and remove adhesive residues.
• is wood,
- • Check wood if it is firmly nailed or attached to the original subfloor.
- • Repair any holes, indentations or open joints.
- • Manually sand or use electric sander to smooth out rough areas.
- • It must be smooth, clean, dry and dust-free.
• Is concrete,
- • Make sure it is smooth and leveled.
- • It must be free from holes, cracks and humps.
- • It must be clean, dry and dust-free.
To Start Installing:
- • Find and mark guidelines to the center point of the room
- • Lay row of tiles in both directions from the center.
- • Adjust to see the least wastage from cutting at the borders.
Spread Adhesive:
- • Cover and spread evenly the water-based adhesive to a portion of the floor.
- • Allow adhesive to set according to manufacturer’s instructions.
Tile Laying
- • Place first tile into place starting at center. Make sure it is positioned correctly and press down firmly.
- • Continue by laying all full tiles from center.
- • Make sure arrows at the back all point in the same direction.
Cutting and Fitting
- • Place the tile to be cut exactly over the last full tile; lay another full tile against the wall and mark the cutting line where the tiles over-lap;
- • Using your sharp utility knife, cut tile on line. Check if the cut tile fits. Don’t force fit!
- • Install tile and press firmly into place.
Finishing Up
- • After installation, remove excess adhesives from the tile surface by lightly wiping with a damp cloth.
- • Make sure the tiles are firmly adhered.
- • Allow adhesive to dry.
Care Instructions
- • Sweep or vacuum regularly.
- • For heavy dirt and stains, wash with floor cleaner.
- • Do not use soap-based detergents and abrasive cleaners.
- • For a glossy shine, apply and polish with a liquid floor polish.
- • Use floor protectors on chair and table legs to protect against indentation damage.
